THE INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE PROGRAM The International Baccalaureate Program is a course of study designed to meet the needs of highly motivated secondary students and is designed to promote international understanding. The effectiveness of the IB program is due not only to the depth of the individual courses, but also to the comprehensive nature of the program. Many students earning the IB Diploma are awarded advanced college credit at prestigious universities around the world. Many highly competitive colleges and universities recognize the IB Diploma for admissions and/or advanced standing. Texas public universities award 24 credit hours for an IB diploma in which all tests have earned at least a grade of 4 (on a 1-7 scale). PISD students enter the International Honors Program at Plano East in either the ninth or tenth grade year followed by the two-year IB Diploma Program (DP). Students may also enter the program at the beginning of the 11th grade year.
